Public Signing Ceremony for Kate Puzey Peace Corps Volunteer Protection Act
at the White House this Monday, November 21nd, 2011 at 2:30 EST
We are delighted and grateful to confirm today that there will be an official public signing ceremony by President Obama at the White House this Monday for the Kate Puzey Peace Corps Volunteer Protection Act!!!
This rare honor will elevate public awareness of the legislation and therefore help ensure strong implementation of its provisions to better protect Peace Corps Volunteers and provide victims of rape and other violence with proper support. It is the final ultimate achievement for our campaign, and a powerful tribute to Kate's memory and legacy.
Thank you so much to everyone who has helped make this possible, from countless phone calls and emails by our wonderful supporters, to the incredible members of our coalition of advocates and congressional allies, to former Peace Corps Volunteers and friends of Kate who joined us in lobbying Congress. It has been an amazing journey and while nothing can bring back our beloved Kate, we know she would be proud of the work that has been done and that part of her legacy will be ensuring that future Peace Corps Volunteers will be protected and supported better than ever before.
Wow, I'm so happy to hear this got the attention it deserved. I sincerely hope this act helps in providing better protection for all current and future PC volunteers. It was an honor to personally know Kate for the time I did. My condolences and continuing support go out to her family.
